I have a funny story about this song. I met a girl my age, just a bit younger. She was perfect. We roller skated to this song. She was a student and she was in band. She played the trumpet. I played the trombone. She was a couple years younger and we never went to the same school together. She was in middle school and it was the summer before I started Freshmen year in high school. Her mother tried to put us together I would guess in hindsight. I think her mother came over to out apartment (my dad owned a building downtown Waupaca, Wisconsin. I played the piano. She came over about something I would play. Her husband ran an Applicance store on the first floor of my dad's property. At that time it was a town of 5000 people. It was great living there for the most part. On Friday nights, or maybe it was Saturday nights, at the armory in Waupaca, (three blocks from where I lived) which had a basketball court, during one summer month, we'd roller skate on the basketball court. I was pretty good. I have no idea how I learned but all I know is I went roller shaking at least once and I was good. Somehow, the next thing I knew was that this girl had grabbed my hand and we were roller skating together. It felt good. The song we roller skated together was "The Lion Sleeps Tonight." People were nice to me. I had this belief that society was wonderful. This young girl and I had at least one other encounter as she and I walked/biked to the high school for a music lesson. I remember it well. Unfortunately, we moved from Waupaca about four months later. I never fell in love with another girl after her, which was meaningful as it seemed between her and me. Decades later, sentimentality has reared its ugly head, and I have thought that she maybe was the right one and I lost her. I wasn't so sure of this until later in life, without a wife, or anyone who could match her sweetness and the memory I had of her, admittedly, agreeing that this idea was immature. Thinking about it all, understanding my life changed drastically, (not sure for the good) when we moved, but she was the one for me. After years and years since I first met her, more than forty years ago, as I think about it, maybe I lost the girl, the woman, of my dreams and the one and only. No one else has ever come close. Maybe this sound ridiculous but I wonder about it whenever I hear the song "The lion Sleeps Tonight." I can tell you, I don't sleep at night. Thanks dad.

This is one of the happiest songs ever - and all the different jungle sounds are amazing and I so appreciate how much the different parts were explained - the base, the tenor, the alto and soprano but I also love the falsetto - truly a joy to listen to and I think a true masterpiece !!!
